Bonny Eliuk, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and passionate advocate for literacy, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in Drayton Valley. Born on March 28, 1955, in Saskatoon, Bonny’s life was marked by her kindness, dedication, and the profound love she held for her family and community.
The daughter of Ken Gaily, a proud member of the air force, and Lillian Schnack, Bonny experienced a childhood of movement and change as her family relocated frequently before finally settling in Buck Creek, Alberta. It was there, at the tender age of 15, that she met her lifelong partner, Eugene. Their friendship blossomed quickly into love, culminating in their marriage on July 14, 1973, a union that stood the test of time through decades filled with joy, adventure, and mutual support.
Bonny’s career as an Educational Assistant and library technician was a true reflection of her passions and values. She took great joy in encouraging children to discover the magic of reading and found deep satisfaction in nurturing young minds at the library. Her dedication touched many lives, inspiring countless children to find solace and excitement in books. Beyond her professional contributions, Bonny was a creative soul who loved quilting, painting, and immersing herself in the melodies of music and the captivating stories of Sci-Fi movies—hobbies that enriched her life and brought happiness to those around her.
Her greatest pride came from her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is lovingly survived by her husband Eugene; daughters Toni (Kirk Scherger) and Shalon (Dwight Steenhart); grandchildren Kasie (Dave Garstad), Ryan, and Jason, and her great-grandson Kason. Their lives were graced by her unwavering love and warmth, and they carry forward her spirit in their hearts every day.
Bonny’s journey was not without sorrow. She bore the loss of her son, Titon Eliuk, and the passing of her father Ken Gaily, mother Lillian Schnack, and in-laws Metro and Tillie Eliuk, each leaving an indelible mark on her life story. Through all of life’s challenges and blessings, Bonny remained resolute and kind.
A special note of gratitude is extended to Dr. Gossman, whose steadfast care and encouragement provided comfort and support throughout Bonny’s journey. Their dedication will always be remembered with appreciation.
A treasured memory shared by those close to her is the joy she found in riding on the back of the Goldwing trike alongside her beloved Eugene, experiencing the world together in freedom and companionship.
Bonny Eliuk’s radiant heart, her gentle spirit, and her generous soul will be deeply missed but forever celebrated. Her legacy lives on in the families she nurtured, the lives she touched through her work, and the countless moments of joy and love she gave so freely.
May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be remembered with tenderness and affection by all who were fortunate to know her.
