Doug Holmgren

March 9, 1947 — September 6, 2024

Lindale

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Norman Douglas (Doug) Holmgren on September 6, 2024 at the age of 77. Doug passed peacefully in the Drayton Valley Hospital surrounded by his family and close friends.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years; Marjorie; son Glenn and his wife Suzie; son Dean; grandchildren Paige, Reese, Hayley, and Brandt; brother Jim; and his many nieces and nephews.

Doug was predeceased by his brother Gordon; his sister-in-law Beth; his sister-in-law Iona; and his parents Norman and Mary Holmgren.

Doug was born and raised in the Lindale area, where he farmed until his passing. He also drove a school bus in the area for nearly 30 years. During his lifetime, he touched many lives, getting hundreds of kids to school on time, playing fastball, participating on boards and associations, leading the Lin-Berry-Buck 4H club, and simply being a good friend and neighbor to those around him.

In his later years, Doug was challenged with several difficult health issues, which culminated with him receiving a heart transplant in late 2016.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of the Mazankowski Heart Institute for incredible work that they performed that help Doug gain 9 more years of meaningful time with his family, watching his grandchildren grow, and farming the land he cherished. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Drayton Valley Hospital for making his passing as peaceful and pain-free as possible.

A memorial service will be held on September 21, 2024 at the Lindale Community Hall at 1:00 PM.
