Dr. Stephen Cooper a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Lindale on October 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 2, 1952, in Kitchener, Ontario, Stephen's life was marked by kindness and a gentle spirit that touched everyone he met.
Stephen's commitment to service was evident from an early age, as he proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon. His dedication to his country and his profession exemplified his caring nature and desire to help others.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, June Cooper, with whom he shared a life filled with love and partnership. The couple raised two daughters, Stephanie (Brett) Ribaric and Victoria (Ryan) Arnold, both of whom carry his values and compassion forward. Stephen was also a proud grandfather to his grandsons, Brady Arnold and Myles Ribaric, with whom he cherished every moment.
Stephen's warmth extended beyond his immediate family. He was fortunate to share life with a lifelong best friend, Stan (Diane) Piotrowski, who understood and appreciated his quiet demeanor. He is survived by his brothers, Mark and David, residing in Ontario, and his sisters-in-law Rita (Terry) Poulton in British Columbia, Shirley Grandy in Newfoundland, Joan Wild, and Betty Cooper in Ontario. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law Ernest Boone (Linda) K.C. in Newfoundland and Andrew Boone in Alberta.
Stephen’s was predeceased by his beloved parents, Jack and Marie Cooper, along with his brothers, Dr. Ed Cooper and John Cooper, his parents-in-law, Ernest and Julia Boone, and brothers-in-law Bill (Jean) Boone and Tom (Lila) Boone, as well as sister-in-law Sylvia (Dave) Bugden.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on November 8, 2025, at McInnes & Holloway, located at 5008 Elbow Drive, Calgary, Alberta. This gathering will reflect on the profound impact Stephen had on his loved ones and provide an opportunity for those who knew him to celebrate his life and legacy.
Dr. Stephen Cooper will be remembered as a kind, quiet gentleman whose loss is great and will be felt by many. His legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to helping others will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
