Edna Joyce Bryanton

Nov 2, 1939 – February 27, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Joyce Bryanton, who departed from us on February 27, 2026, at her home in Breton, AB, at the age of 86 years. All who knew Edna will feel the very deep and empty void her absence brings.

Edna will be forever missed by her three children, Warren (Kim), Mark (Luz), and Tracy (Scott); her six siblings (Selena, Arthur, Murrough, Norma, Gary, and Garth); her grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and many great grandchildren who brought her so much joy; her many well loved nieces and nephews; as well as her two lifelong friends (Joyce and Josephine). Edna was predeceased by her husband, Don Bryanton, in 1976, her parents (Nellie and Ed), five siblings (Florence, Ernie, Mervyn, Allan, and Art), and her very dear grandson (Jason).

Edna was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Ed and Nellie Downton. At the age of 16 years, she moved to Alberta, and on December 20, 1957, she married Don Bryanton. Together, Don and Edna settled in the Faraway District, and later west of Rimbey, where they farmed and raised their three children. After the loss of Don in 1976, Edna went to work for what was then Amerada Hess, Willesden Green, where she would work many years and cultivate many deep friendships. Edna lived with Donald Bell west of Rimbey for several years before moving to Grande Cache, where she started a very successful bed and breakfast. In 2006, Edna returned to the Drayton Valley area and lived on Warren’s farm, where, as she said many times, spent the best years of her life! She had lots of space for her many loved guests, a big yard and garden, and ample time for her golf, card playing, and her floor curling, where her team won a bronze medal in the Alberta Provincial Games. Edna’s life was very full and busy at this time, and if you wanted to see her, it was strictly by appointment only! For her last years, Edna chose to leave the farm and moved to Breton to an independent living senior’s complex, where she would yet again begin many new friendships.

To know Edna - was to be truly “touched” by Edna.

A public Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held at Last West Hall, west of Rimbey, on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Gooderham officiating. Both the hall and yard will be available for camping from July 3-6, with hopes that many family and friends will join us for a full weekend of visiting.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Edna’s name may be made to Stars Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB. T2E or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1220-2300 Yonge Street, Box 2414, Toronto. ON. M4P 1E4
