Elaine Koebernick, a cherished mother, sister, and friend, embarked on her final journey on August 16, 2025, at the Drayton Valley Hospital. Born in Calmar on January 20, 1935, Elaine was raised on a family farm near Genesee, where her love for the land and the simple joys of life first blossomed.
Elaine devoted her life to education, sharing her passion for learning with countless students over the years. From 1954 to 1957, she taught grades 1 through 9 in the quaint one-room Howard School near St. Francis. In 1958, she made Drayton Valley her home, where she continued her teaching career at Eldorado School until her retirement in 1991. Her patience, dedication, and kindness shaped the minds and hearts of many young learners, leaving an enduring legacy in the community.
Beyond the classroom, Elaine was an active and proud member of The Women’s Institute, contributing her time and spirit to serve and uplift those around her. Her interests were as diverse and vibrant as her personality. She adored gardening, immersing herself in the beauty of nature; enjoyed berry picking and canning, crafting delicious preserves to share; and cherished her love for old-time country music and line dancing, which brought her joy and connection with others. A devoted sports enthusiast, she was a loyal supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Chicago Blackhawks, and Edmonton Oilers.
Elaine's warmth extended to her beloved companions, her two cats, Bandit and Mischief, who brought laughter and comfort into her life. Her favorite color, blue, mirrored her tranquil spirit and love for the peaceful moments life offers.
She leaves behind her loving son, Mike Koebernick (Michelle) of Drayton Valley, as well as her dear sister, Angie Babichuk (Rick) of Edmonton, and her brother, Ron Maday (Shirley), also of Edmonton. Though she is reunited with her late husband, Walter Koebernick, who passed away in 2007, and her departed parents, Bessie and Mike Maday, the memories they created together will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Elaine's spirit, nurturing heart, and lifelong devotion to her passions have profoundly touched the lives of many. She will be remembered not only for her contributions as an educator but also as a loving matriarch whose kindness and laughter will echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
