On the afternoon of July 4, 2026, after a long, courageous, hard-fought battle with health problems, Elaine completed her life’s journey in peace and grace. She lived her life with courage and dignity. In the sorrow of her passing, her family celebrates the gift of her life.
Elaine was born on January 14, 1951, in Edmonton, AB. She was brought home to the Johnson farm at Spruce Hill. In 1955, the family moved into Winfield, and there she completed Gr. 1 to Gr. 12 and graduated in 1969 from the Winfield School, making many life-long friends along the way. She was an active participant in sports and the cheerleading squad.
After graduating, Elaine went off to the bright lights of Edmonton. Her first job was in the Records Dept. at Alberta Blue Cross. As money was always her forte, she then chose work in the financial field as her career that spanned many years. Wetaskiwin CIBC, Edmonton Savings and Credit Union in Leduc, and her last position was at the Scotia Bank in Drayton Valley, ending her career in 1983.
She was Secretary-Treasurer for the Pembina Minor League Ball, Secretary-Treasurer for 20 years for the Lindale Cemetery and Secretary-Treasurer of the Lindale Ball Club. She was the first woman elected Director of the Lindale REA, an active member of the Lindale Parent Council and later a Nail Technician for 10 years while living at Lindale.
For many years Elaine was an environmentalist and believed strongly in protecting our earth and resources.
She became interested in Family History in 1998, joined the Drayton Valley Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society, and after a move to Wetaskiwin in 2008, she became an active member of the Wetaskiwin Branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society. She enjoyed many wonderful research adventures, and a highlight was visiting Kansas, Oklahoma and New York to research and meet her father’s family.
She joined the Winfield & District Historical Society about 2016 and spent hours recording stories of local people and the area, and served as Society Treasurer for 8 years.
In June 2021, she moved to Spruce View Court in Breton and loved her new home, being close to her son Cole and family and making new friends.
Elaine was a nature lover and especially loved hummingbirds. Loved dancing when younger, was an avid reader, and made many beautiful colored latch-hooked rugs and covered hangers that family loved receiving as gifts. She also helped craft willow furniture in the 90’s.
The legacy of Elaine’s life will live on in her son Cole (Brooke) and her precious grandchildren: Seth, Lily, Abi, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Hazel and William. She will be forever remembered in the hearts of her sister, Arlene Hedlund, sister-in-law Kay Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was predeceased by her father, Elmor 1957, her mother, Hazel 1997, sister, Joyce 2017 and her brother, Ted in 2018.
Her family is grateful for the kindness and care she received in the Drayton Valley Hospital and the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton.
