It’s with heavy hearts that we announce Jim’s passing on March 16, 2026, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB., at the age of 78 years.

Jim fought a long, hard battle with heart failure for a number of years and surprised many with his ability to fight back to spend more time with the family he loved so much. Jim was born in a farmhouse in Pugwash Junction, Nova Scotia and raised by his Grandma, whom he lovingly called Mum, along with his older brother Wayne. They moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, where Jim met his wife, later moving to Redcliff, Slave Lake, Drayton Valley, and finally settling on an acreage near Rocky Rapids. He was a quiet man who loved nothing better than to be enveloped in the love and chaos that family created.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sheila ( Hoffarth), his son Steve Castets, daughters Sarah Renwick (Pete), Jen Stewart (James), Laura Horvath (Ted) and Angie Brace-Mcleod, 13 grandchildren, Justin, Ashley (Johnny), Kyle (Kayla), Megan (Davin), Kayla (Christopher), Bradley (Chyanne), Gordon, Tatianna, Brandon, Tommy (Makayla), Jasmine, JJ, and Brody.

Jim’s legacy continues into another generation with 7 great-grandchildren, Anna, Abby, C.J., Addley, Giovanni Joshua, Nova-Lynn and an eighth on the way.

Jim was part of a large extended family of half-siblings, including his beloved brother Wayne Robinson (Margaret), along with Robert Murray (Petra), Cherrylee Campbell (Silbert), Nancy Milheron (Paul), Mark Murray (Monica), Doreen Murray (Ed), Donna Yasvinski (Terry), Roy Murray and Shelagh Schumacher. More recently, he developed close and meaningful relationships with half-siblings Cheryl Adshade (Dave), Melinda McFadden (Doug), Rebecca Adshade, Bob Adshade, and Mae LeBlanc.

Jim was predeceased by his Mum, Sarah Robinson, his uncles Irwin, Norman and Keith Robinson, his birth parents, George Adshade and Eva Robinson, 2 brothers Leon Adshade and Ervine Murray (Roma), sister Karen Arsenault (Robert) and 2 great grandchildren, Hailey and Deegan Kuzyk as well as his parents-in-law, Peter and Louise Hoffarth.

The family would like to thank Dr. Van der Merwe, Dr. Sutherland, the incredible nursing staff, lab and x-ray techs for the excellent care Jim received at Drayton Valley Hospital in the days before his passing and to the friendly housekeeping staff. They would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Van Staden for years of compassionate medical care, and to Jordan Turba for his attentive listening and thoughtful guidance. Thank you also to Colleen Sekura, of Drayton Valley Memorial, who made the process of saying our good-bye that much easier.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1200-2300 Yonge St, Box 2414, Toronto, ON., M4P 1E4 or to the Drayton Valley Health Foundation, 4550 Madsen Ave., Drayton Valley, AB. T7A 1N8 .

A Celebration of Jim’s life will be announced at a later date.
