It is with the greatest of sadness that we announce the sudden death of James Dean Maygard on July 12, 2026. Born June 20, 1962, in Kelowna, B.C., James began his log-building career in Lumby, B.C., where he became an accredited senior project manager, traveling throughout North America and Europe to complete major executive projects. In his 30s, he followed the call of his DNA and moved to Breton. A prairie boy at heart, he continued his profession as a log builder and embraced the call of a country boy. Having an acreage with some animals, especially horses, was a dream come true. His close relationship with his son Roman was a dream come true as he wanted to share his life close to his son. Roman was his sidekick and best friend.

James was known for his big heart, and ironically, it was his big heart that let him down.

James is survived by his mother, Eileen Ruark, his son, Roman Davis James Maygard, his daughters, Amanda Lynn Carrier and Natalie Dawn Carrier, his brother, Adam Kim (Randi-Marie) Maygard; and his sister, Sheila Marie (Doug) Gunn.

James was predeceased by his father, Davis John Maygard, and his brother, Melvin Davis Maygard.

We thank those of you who made his life better and brought him happiness. Please take a moment when you see the sunset and remember James as the prairie boy who loved this land as he did his family.

Arrangements in care of Colleen Sekura and Keara Grover, Drayton Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services, 5029-48 Street, Drayton Valley, AB.
