Jean Eleanor Gomuwka, née Nelson, passed away in Drayton Valley on October 6, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 7, 1933, in Edmonton, and lived a long life shaped by creativity, warmth, and deep love for her family.
Jean found joy in both the beauty of the world around her and in the quiet work of her hands. She loved travelling, and she carried that same spirit of curiosity and appreciation into the many things she enjoyed each day. Sewing, painting, reading, and knitting were among the pursuits that brought her happiness and reflected her patient, thoughtful nature. She especially treasured gatherings between family and friends, where the people she loved most could be together. Her generosity also reached beyond her own home through her volunteer work at the Senior's Centre, where she taught painting and helped with community events.
Jean is survived by her daughters Charlene Gomuwka-Brown and Laurie (Brian) Walsh, and by her granddaughters, Breanna Walsh and Brittany Broen. In their love for one another, and in the gatherings and creative traditions that meant so much to her, her memory will remain.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Gomuwka; her son-in-law, Michael; her siblings Chester, Lorna, Harvey, Verna, Marvin, and Sydney, along with their spouses; and by her parents, Roy and Borghild Nelson.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 25, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 4401 50 Ave, Drayton Valley, Alberta. Family and friends are invited to come together to honour Jean's life and to remember the love she shared so freely.
