John Hilstad

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Hilstad, an accomplished carpenter who touched the lives of many. John was born on November 13, 1928, on the farm in Shell Lake, Sask. His quiet demeanor was accompanied by a profound sense of integrity, grace, strength of character, humility, kindness, and compassion. He was a man of few words but left a impact on everyone he encountered with his great sense of humor.

John's journey on this earth came to an end on June 5, 2024, in Drayton Valley, but his family rejoices in knowing that grandpa is dancing with Jesus in heaven. He was a beloved husband to Shirley Hilstad for 69 years and John's legacy lives on through his daughter Melodie (Ian) Wilkinson, his sons Gregory (Pam) Hilstad and Graham (Kathy) Hilstad. To his 14 grandchildren, he was their hero - with strong hands who gave the strongest hugs and remained as solid as a rock. His memory will also forever be cherished by his 35 great-grandchildren.

In the embrace of heaven, John is reunited with his parents Arnt and Marit Hilstad and his sister Gladys. He also leaves behind 4 brothers and 5 sisters who will carry on his memory with love and fondness.

A Come and Go Memorial Celebration to honor John's life will take place at Drayton Memorial Celebration Centre located at 5029-48th Street, Drayton Valley, AB T7A 1E1, on June 15, 2024. The gathering will commence at 2:00 PM and conclude at 4:00 PM to celebrate the life of this remarkable man who brought light into the lives of those around him.

John Hilstad will be remembered not only for his craftsmanship as a carpenter but also for the love he shared with all who knew him. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace while his memory continues to live vibrantly in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
