Doug Maclean

November 27, 1950 — October 17, 2023

Buck Lake

John Douglas Wilson MacLean of Buck Lake, AB, died at his home on October 17, 2023; a few weeks shy of his 73rd birthday. Doug was born in Calgary, AB on November 27, 1950 to Donald Steele MacLean and Mary Alice MacLean. He was raised in Bridgeland and attended Langevin Elementary School and Crescent Heights High School. He apprenticed as a Printer & Lithographer and was employed in the industry for over 40 years operating high-speed four-color presses.

Doug was briefly married and divorced and lived for many years in the Pineridge community of NE Calgary, where he became a neighbor and best friend to Ken & Joanne Mazurkewich and was an Uncle to their children Heather and Trevor. In 1998 they jointly acquired and developed a waterfront property on Buck Lake, AB, which became their weekend get-away until 2013 when they made it their permanent retirement residence.

Doug loved the lake and being retired out there.  He loved fishing, morning hot tubs, morning walks & coffee, and evening campfires.  He loved sledding, hosting hunting camps, and the legendary corn roast (AKA: the roadkill café).   There wasn’t a person who met Doug in the Buck Lake subdivision that he wouldn’t help and wasn’t touched by his good heart.

He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and humorous good nature.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, one brother, and by his dear friends Ken & Joanne Mazurkewich.  He is survived by a brother, a sister, numerous nieces and nephews, and by his chosen kin Heather Cahill and Trevor Mazurkewich.

At Doug’s request no funeral service will be held. Cremation has occurred, and a private celebration of life will be held at Buck Lake in the spring of 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the charity of your choice.
