Lawrence Lyda, a hard-working man with an entrepreneurial spirit, passed away on July 22, 2023, at the Drayton Valley Hospital. Born on February 22, 1950, in Edmonton, AB, Lawrence leaves behind a legacy of success and compassion.
Lawrence's career was marked by his dedication and determination. In the 1970's, he founded Lyda Logging Ltd., which went on to become one of the largest logging and hauling contractors in Alberta. His vision and leadership played a significant role in the growth and success of the company.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lawrence was known for his kind-hearted nature and his devotion to family. He was deeply loved by his large family and leaves behind a void that can never be filled. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife Cindy Lyda. He was a proud father to his sons Dwayne, Shawn, Kevin (Jeanette), Bryan (Tammy), as well as his daughters Lisa (Marc) and Heather (Mike). Lawrence's passing also leaves a profound impact on his numerous grandchildren: Ashley, Kendra, Blake, Londyn,Caitlin (Daylen), Zachary, Josh, Blaire, Blane, Rome, Kennedy (Devin), Reese, Kayla, Brendan Sacha, and Brooke. He also has nine great-grandchildren, six surviving siblings, three brothers and three sisters; and his mother-in-law, Mona Sloan from Slave Lake.
Lawrence had a zest for life that extended beyond his work and family commitments. He had an absolute love of animals. Always by his side would be a beloved (and very well-treated) dog or two. Special areas were set aside for his dogs and cats, but the dogs also had the run of the house. He also found solace in observing the many birds that enjoyed life out at the acreage.
Lawrence's passing came suddenly as he suffered from a heart attack despite efforts made by paramedics to save him. While we mourn his loss deeply today, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives during the time we were fortunate to spend with him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 27th, 2023 at the MacKenzie Conference Centre in Drayton Valley, AB. The service will begin at 1:00 and will be a time for family, friends, and colleagues to come together to remember Lawrence's remarkable life. The MacKenzie Conference Centre, located at 5737 45th Ave, Drayton Valley, AB T7A 0B6, Canada,
Lawrence was predeceased by one of his sisters and both of his parents. While he is no longer with us physically, his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched as a dedicated entrepreneur, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend.
In this time of grief, we extend our deepest sympathies to the Lyda family and all those who knew and loved Lawrence. May his soul find eternal peace as we carry his spirit in our hearts forever.
