Rick Gabrielson

It is with deep sadness we announce that Ricky Lee Gabrielson of Drayton Valley, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the age of 73.

Rick was a "hands on" man, a man of many traits. He could visualize something and create it. A kind, helpful, talented and knowledgeable man. He loved music, whether it was listening tit, learning it or playing the spoons, harmonica, his drum, banjo or guitar. He loved animals and has had a few "dog best friends" throughout his years. He also had a cowboy side to him and he could survive in the wilderness if he had to. He taught many of his grandchildren the ways of survival in the wilderness as well. 

He was a devoted husband, proud pappa, son, brother, dad, uncle and many other roles He definitely was one of a kind, he had such a sense of humor and touched so many lives over the years.

Rick will be forever remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Barb, of 54 years, his children, Georgia (Mike) Frost, of Drayton Valley, Chris (Amber) Gabrielson, of Chestermere and Mandi Smyth of Drayton Valley as well as his 12 grandchildren, Jerica (Chad) Works, Jacob (Robin) Johannesson, Zachary (Katie) Johannesson, Tianna Frost (Brock), Mataya Frost, Tyra (Tom) Johnson, Kobe and Kaylib Catt, Zane and Axel Smyth, Noah and Tessa Gabrielson. He will also be missed by his 12 precious great grandchildren, Pryor and Avaya Works, Cohen, Grayson, William, and Brielle Johannesson, Hunter, Jayce, Tripp and Tate Johnson, Dior and Estoria Catt. He will also be lovingly remembered by his father, George (Joe), his siblings, Grant (Agnes), Dean, Iva, Wanda (Larry) Swap, sister and brother in laws, Charlotte (Walter), Connie (Graham), Audra (Rod) and numerous nieces and nephews along with many dear friends.

Rick was predeceased by his mother Reta and brother Corey.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Whitby Hall (6523 Twp Rd 502) on November 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Alberta Hospital Foundation or STARS.
