Robert “Rob” Van Gils, born on June 7, 1958, lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and deep love for his family. He spent most of his career as a tank truck driver, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for those he loved.
Rob passed away on January 25, surrounded by the love of his life, Denice, his daughter Kim, and his son-in-law Aaron. He shared 46 years of marriage with Denice, building a life rooted in devotion, resilience, and partnership. He was a very proud and loving father to Kim and a cherished father-in-law to Aaron.
Known for his legendary sense of humor and quick, witty comebacks, Rob could always be counted on to make people laugh. He loved woodworking, fishing, and camping, finding joy and peace in working with his hands and spending time outdoors. True to his sense of humor, Rob is finally reunited with his right leg and will once again be a whole person—something he would no doubt have appreciated the joke in.
Rob is survived by his wife, Denice; his daughter, Kim, and her husband, Aaron; his sisters Kathy and her partner Dave, Debbie and her husband Erle and Jackie and her husband Mike; his brother Eddie and his wife Pauline; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his best buddy, Dave.
Rob will be remembered for his steady presence, sharp wit, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the laughter he shared, the skills he passed down, and the many lives he touched.
A celebration of Rob’s life will be held in the summer so we call join together to share stories and memories and enjoy “Bob’s Bigger Better BBQ Beef Burgers” one last time.
