Roland Boisvert, a cherished member of the community and a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the Drayton Valley Hospital. Born on June 2, 1938, in Legal, Alberta, Roland lived a life filled with remarkable experiences and deep connections.
In his younger years, Roland exhibited a passion for sports, particularly skating and hockey, where he often expressed aspirations of emulating the great Rocket Richard. His playful spirit extended beyond the rink; he was known for his mischievous antics, including a memorable moment where he took his brother’s motorcycle up a park slide for a laugh. Roland possessed a natural talent for music, delighting those around him with his singing and yodeling skills. He also had a well-known affinity for fast cars and motorcycles.
Roland's heart was captured by Jeannine Henry, leading to their union in June of 1961. Together they built a nurturing home in Edmonton, raising their children Lorraine and Richard, and creating lasting memories through camping, boating, fishing, and family card games like Crib and Barouche. Their marriage ultimately ended in divorce in 1979. However, Roland soon found companionship once more, meeting Vivian Lukusta. Roland and Vivian shared a loving partnership until her passing in 2018.
Throughout his life, Roland worked tirelessly in various capacities, beginning at his brother's garage, followed by several roles in the oil fields and other labor jobs. A major life-changing moment came in 2003 when Roland suffered a massive stroke, which left him with verbal communication challenges and some paralysis. Despite this adversity, his characteristic sense of humor and cheerful disposition remained unbroken, bringing joy to those around him even in his most challenging times.
In his later years, Roland resided at Seasons Retirement Community in Drayton Valley, where he developed a fondness for fudgesicles and ginger ale. The warmth and camaraderie he shared with staff and fellow residents spoke volumes about his kind nature, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Roland is survived by his beloved daughter Lorraine (Sanford) Greve and his adored grandchildren Rene (Elizabeth) Duperron, Curtis Duperron, and Kristin (Michael) Cable. He is also mourned by his many friends and acquaintances who admired his spirit.
Preceding him in death were his wife Vivian Lukusta, son Richard Boisvert, parents Aime and Delia Boisvert, sister Rita Boisvert, brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Juliette Boisvert, and sister Rita Williams.
Roland Boisvert’s legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him. The family extends their profound gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at the Drayton Valley Hospital and Seasons Retirement Community for the exceptional care and kindness extended to Roland during his final days. Thank you also to Colleen Sekura at Drayton Memorial for your support during this difficult time. Roland will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
