It is with profound sadness that the family of Sally Barton (née Golsby), announces her passing on September 2, 2026, at Drayton Valley Hospital, with family by her side.
She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward with gratitude and affection. Sally is survived by her children and their families: Vicki Barton; Michael (Pam) Barton; and Kim (Henry) Kiemele. She was a proud grandmother to Riley Barton, Davis Barton, Ava Kiemele, and Ella Kiemele, and a cherished great-grandmother to Beckett Barton. She is also survived by her brother, Peter Golsby, and her sister, Helen Moppett. Surrounded by the family and friends who helped and supported her, Sally’s life was a reminder of the strength found in love, loyalty, and kindness.
Sally was predeceased by her husband, Jerry. She was also predeceased by her parents Richard and Nancy Golsby; as well as her siblings Judith Halford, Robert Golsby, Richard Golsby, Nancy Peacocke, and Chris Golsby.
Sally's story began April 4, 1945 in New South Wales, Australia. She came to Canada in search of new experiences. After docking in Vancouver, she found work as a nanny. She travelled to Edmonton to follow her calling as a nurse and eventually Slave Lake in 1969 to work in the hospital. It was there that she met her future husband Jerry. Together they came to Drayton Valley, where they built a life rooted in family and community. She served as a nurse in Drayton Valley for many years, offering steady hands, compassion, and comfort to those in her care.
Sally found joy in the pleasures that made life vivid and memorable. She loved road trips, adventures with friends, and capturing beautiful landscapes through her photography. She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, and especially cherished every moment with her great-grandson, Beckett. Sally's adventures took her far and wide, and shaped her into the wonderful woman she was.
Her family extends special thanks to the doctors and nurses in Acute Care at Drayton Valley Hospital, as well as Dr. Fairchild at the Cross Cancer Institute, for the care given to Sally.
